Coconut oil – are they all created equal?

Virgin? Cold Pressed? Are all Coconut oils created equal? And what is the difference?
🥥 One of the most frequently asked questions we get is whats the difference between VIRGIN and COLD PRESSED coconut oils.
🌴 From a nutritional point, both cold-pressed and virgin coconut oil are almost the same… both have fatty acids which help to boost immunity and have anti-bacterial properties.
🥥 The difference is in how they are made!
🌴 Cold Pressed coconut oil is made from the dried coconut flesh, and virgin oil is from the coconut milk!
🥥 You’ll notice VIRGIN CO has a much stronger aroma to the COLD PRESSED CO, but VIRGIN CO has a low smoking point making it not really suitable for high-temperature cooking.
🌴 Instead – choose VIRGIN CO for dishes such as salad or for drizzling on warm bread ;)
🥥 The coconut milk used to make VIRGIN CO is much higher in moisture which means this is the one you’ll want to chose to use for hair and body!

Why use coconut oil?

Here are some amazing benefits you may not have already known – If you have anything to add please leave us a comment!

  1. Coconut oil contains lauric acid. Lauric acid is super amazing at killing bacteria, fungi and viruses when used topically – that’s right on your skin or hair. To get the most potent antibacterial properties virgin coconut oil is the one to choose.
  2.  Consuming coconut oil can also be a potent way to kill harmful pathogens too as when taken innternally (eaten) it reacts with enzymes to form the monoglyceride called monolaurin.  It has also be found to kill Staphylococcus aureus and the yeast Candida albicans – goodbye candida!
  3. Because it’s anti-fungal and anti-bacterial, it can also be a natural alternative in the ahem, bedroom… we will just leave this one here.
  4. Chemicals found in coconut oil (ketones) have also been shown to reduce Alzheimers disease by way of providing other energy sources for damaged brain cells. Pretty cool if you ask us.
